Resilience
Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from life’s challenges using healthy coping skills. A child’s resilience develops when they are given an opportunity to face life’s challenges and use the necessary skills to overcome adversities. When a child is constantly rescued from their problems they miss an important opportunity to build resilience skills.
This is not to say that a child should be completely neglected during difficult times in order to build resilience. It simply means that a child can be supported, whilst also being provided with the space to draw upon their own resources and skills to cope with challenging experiences.
