FOUNDER: Emily Flourentzou
Child & Adolescent Counsellor
About 8 years ago, I started my career journey with a broad interest in working therapeutically with families. I soon discovered the client demographic which brought me the most joy and fulfilment in this pursuit – children!
Nothing compares to the rewarding feeling of being able to connect, support and create a difference in a child’s life. If I am speaking truthfully, these children have had a bigger positive impact on my life than I had expected. I think I speak on behalf of many when I say that children are our biggest teachers!
While supporting children who were facing life-changing experiences or trying to cope better with challenging times in their life, I also had the pleasure of working with their entire support systems. These people included their parents, grandparents, foster carers and teachers.
From working with numerous children and their families, I have learnt what contributes to a child’s self-confidence and self-worth. Firstly, it is strongly linked to the quality of the relationships between the child and their significant role models. It is also determined by learned skills that allow them to cope with life’s challenges.
Through my work, I have built strong connections with children and their significant role models. By using a range of skills and resources, derived from evidence-based research, I have seen outstanding results and positive changes in their life.
As my passion continued to grow in the field of working therapeutically with children, I decided to found Brazen Bloom so I could share the knowledge and experience I have gathered over the years to support families and children in the wider community.
Brazen Bloom's Philosophy
Our mission is to deliver therapeutic services for children and teenagers to improve their self-confidence, resilience and emotional intelligence so they can thrive in all areas of life.
A child’s self-confidence, resilience and emotional intelligence can influence various aspects of their life. These aspects may include: their ability to cope with life’s challenges, the quality of their relationships, academic and sporting performance and an overall drive to succeed and pursue goals in life. We believe it is vital to teach children important life skills early on in life, while their brains are growing and developing, to set them up for success in the future.
How can we make a lasting difference?
Our services are facilitated by experienced Child and Adolescent Counsellors. We adopt a strength-based approach and draw on principles derived from evidence-based therapeutic models. We focus on delivering customised services to meet each child’s developmental needs. Our diverse services help to maximise engagement, allow children to safely express themselves and ensure learning outcomes.
We are one of the few services in the community who work collaboratively with caregivers and offer one-on-one support as part of the child’s counselling journey. Our Child and Adolescent Counsellors focus on offering evidence-based strategies to caregivers, as a way to compliment the counselling process and meet the child’s individual needs in the home and school environment.
Our experienced Child and Adolescent Counsellors have a long history of building trusting bonds with children who are experiencing a range of challenges. Research shows that successful therapeutic outcomes are directly linked to the quality of the therapeutic relationship.
We focus on helping children to process their emotions, learn new regulation strategies and identify their existing skills and strengths to overcome life’s challenges and keep getting stronger.
